Merv 8 Filters

What's Merv 8?

MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) is a rating that refers to the efficiency of the filters to trap the small particles in the air. On a scale of 1 to 16, the efficiency of the filters increases with the ranking. This rating system was introduced by American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) in 1987 to represent the lowest possible performance of an air filter. MERV 8 filters are synthetic media made air filters that trap small particles and allergens ranging between 3 to 10 microns in size. Since MERV 8 air filters are capable to filter dust mites, mold spores, dander, and smoke, they are ideal for any residential application.

Most of the MERV 8 filters that are used in the U.S. are 2-inch in size. These filters are well performing in American households to improve the indoor air quality. Moreover, MERV 8 filters are inexpensive and easy to service as compared to the MERV filters with a higher rating. Another thing that goes into the favor of MERV 8 filters is that they are far more efficient and long-lasting as compared to the ordinary fiberglass filters.

Why Choose Mer v 8?

Many people have a misconception that choosing a MERV 11 or MERV 13 filter will enhance the indoor air quality. But unfortunately, it will not. It is like paying more to kill the same bacteria and air pollutants with a MERV 11 or MERV 13 filter that a MERV 8 filter can kill. You can enjoy a number of benefits from MERV 8 filters while not spending much on them.

MERV filters with a higher rating than 8 are likely to be used in commercial applications like schools and hospitals where the cleanest air is a necessity. Since MERV 8 filters can efficiently filter size three microns, you can use them to in a house with a pet. If you are having more than one pet in your house, or living in an area which is near to construction sites; you need a MERV filter with a higher rating. Also, if you have a family member who is suffering from allergies or asthma; you are recommended to use MERV 11 air filter that is efficient to trap the smaller air pollutants which MERV will let go through. That’s why we only recommend using a MERV 11 filter into the households with more than one pet, or family members with serious health issues, or the areas which have high air pollution.

Each MERV air filter has a lifespan which means you will need to change the air filter after a time limit to maintain the indoor air quality. We suggest you change the air filters as directed by the manufacturer or once in three months to keep the indoor environment of your residential space clean and healthy
